Bad week

This was a bad week. Actually, it was a bad Tuesday, but that just overshadowed everything.

Tuesday was spent seeing if could get my student worker account off of suspension. Since I was going to be not a full time student and the likes (something about Australia) I filled out all the necessary paperwork to not get kicked off payroll.

Well, I hadn’t been taken off of there. So, I called and asked about it. Turns out, they terminated my account!

I wonder what they lost…was it the form I filled out to go on suspension because I would be under credited? (They asked if I had done one) Was it the ethics thing I signed and faxed back? (Ditto) Who knows what it was.

So, I spent Wednesday clearing that up, but Tuesday…I was not happy at all. I was angry, actually. Hopefully my work will not be charity. I need money, and SIU owes me a nice check for these past six weeks. It’s all squared away, and I will get paid starting now. I’ve been told they’ll try to get my hours to me that I worked before.

Exact quote from WSIU Payroll guy…”We owe you (looks over sheet) a lot of hours!”

That night, I was online, talking about two things primarily…

1) Payroll
2) My lack of a plan after graduation

So, I have that nice angry, uneasy vibe. Already not happy. Then, I read this…

http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20071009/NEWS01/71009005

I ran cross country with Andy Smith. He was an awesome guy. This news shocked me; I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I started to cry, which I found strange. I knew Andy, I was friends with him, but we hadn’t talked in awhile. Maybe it was an overwhelming of emotions, I don’t know. But, reading that made me cry. I’m a bit choked up thinking about it now.

In one of the Herald’s stories, there is a photo gallery. He’s in it, and he looks like I remember him. I wish I had stayed in touch with him more. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

I don’t know what to say…the news was as unexpected as they come. And for it to be someone I knew, someone I ran with…it just hit hard.

So, while the past few days have probably been good, I haven’t felt it. Not too many people on campus know about this, or that I knew someone in the crash. I haven’t focused the past few days, but I think I’m getting back to that point.

Now, for football picks. Boy, do they seem pointless though.

Southern Illinois @ Northern Iowa
The Salukis haven’t won at UNI since 1983. Considering they’re ranked 2nd in the nation…I expect that streak to continue. UNI 21, SIU 17

WSU @ Oregon
The “Remember the Roses” feature on wsucougars.com (a look back at the 1997 season) is more and more interesting each week. It’s going to get downright fascinating now. Oregon 56, WSU 20.

Washington at Arizona State
After last week, I don’t think ASU is as good as their record indicates, and I think Washington is decent. I’ll pick the upset.

UW 23, ASU 20

Seahawks vs. Saints

If Seattle doesn’t win this game…I’m jumping on the Lions bandwagon. Last Sunday was embarrassing.

Seattle 28, New Orleans 20
