Obscure lyrics…FTW!
Last week, I did an interview with the head volleyball coach at Kaskaskia College. (interview recorded with Scheinschreiber, naturally) It was a side project I was doing for the radio station. As I drove back to Salem, I thought about how neat it would be to work on this at home and do it in my spare time.
Then I realized: I didn’t have a quality microphone. Sure, I could use the internal mic on the Mac, but it doesn’t sound great. Its decent, but its not as clear. Ditto with iMic, Mac’s USB Lapel mic which I purchased a few years ago (lest you think my audio geekery is a new thing). So, how do I remedy this situation?
By buying a better microphone! Head over to sound professionals, find a USB condenser mic, and ordered it that day.
This morning, as I was leaving for Centralia, I noticed a box on my porch. Sure enough its from Sound Professionals…and the day could not get over with fast enough.
After work, came home, opened it up and got to work. The first thing I like was the set-up. Its easy. Directions? Meh. Not when the four components are 2 part mic stand, the mic itself, and the usb cord. Easy to figure out. With the Mac, it was easy to designate the USB Mic as the audio input for the machine, so I was good to go, maybe 2 minutes out of the box.
After some quick tests to make sure things were going well (plus a download of Audacity, an audio editor) I did some research for an NFL Podcast which hopefully will go up on WJBD’s website. Sound quality was great, sounded very professional. It was what I’d been looking for. I’m very pleased with my last two purchases from Sound Professionals, but think that this will be it for awhile. I can’t think of anything else I need.
Anyway, continuing with the German theme, the mic is dubbed (no pun intended) Tonsammler, which means sound collector. The German word for microphone was Mikrofon, not nearly as fun.
Football picks to come later this week.
I never lived in fear
I knew I’d die another day,
Alan
